A single member bench headed by Justice M. Nagaprasanna heard the petition filed by the in-charge of the Math, Swamiji Basavaprabhu, and issued a notice to the defendants, the Home Department Principal Secretary and the Chitradurga Rural Police Station.
In addition, the bench directed the defendants to reply to the application and submit the progress report of the investigation to the court and adjourned the hearing to February 10.
Petitioner’s lawyer P.N. Hegde, Basavarajan and other accused persons had filed a criminal complaint with the Chitradurga Rural Police Station regarding the allegations of fraud, threats and inciting the minor to file a case against Muruga Sharan. However, the police are not conducting adequate investigation. Therefore, they demanded that the government be directed to transfer the investigation from Chitradurga rural station and appoint a senior woman police officer for the investigation.
Direction to furnish details of grant given to Muruga Math
Construction of two buildings is underway on the side of Jagadguru Muruga Rajendra Math. One is the tallest statue of Basaveshwara, another is the Allama Prabhu Research Centre. The High Court on Monday directed the government to provide details about the grant of crores of rupees given for this purpose.
The High Court has heard a petition filed regarding the appointment of an administrator to the Muruga Mutt by the government. On behalf of the government, Advocate General Prabhulinga K. Navadagi has informed the court that the administrator has been appointed in order to manage the assets worth crores of rupees belonging to the Math.
The court, directed to provide details regarding the grant given by the government, has fixed the hearing for February 2.
