Rahul Gandhi Disqualified: Election Commission disqualified another ‘Rahul Gandhi’, contested from Wayanad

Wayanad Rahul Gandhi KE Disqualified: At a time when news of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification from the Lok Sabha is making headlines, another ‘Rahul Gandhi’ who contested from the same Wayanad seat in Kerala in 2019 He was also disqualified from contesting the elections. On March 29, the Election Commission of India (ECI) issued a regular list of disqualified persons under Section 10A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, to all State Chief Electoral Officers. In which a person named Rahul Gandhi KE was also included. 

According to the list, Kottayam resident Rahul Gandhi KE was disqualified for a period of three years on September 9, 2021. Under Section 10A, those who fail to submit their accounts of election expenses to the ECI after contesting elections are disqualified for a period of three years. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s name in this list was not. Though he was disqualified on March 23 after being convicted in a defamation case, the trial court gave him 30 days to seek legal remedies. 

Rahul Gandhi contested the election as an independent

Rahul Gandhi KE contested the Lok Sabha election as an independent candidate from Wayanad, which was won by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi by more than 7 lakh votes. It is very common for independent candidates with the same name to contest elections in front of well-known leaders. Along with Rahul Gandhi KE, a candidate named Raghul Gandhi was also in the fray in this election. While Rahul Gandhi KE got 2,196 votes, Raghul Gandhi K got 845 votes. 

Congress leader’s parliament membership has been cancelled

When asked about the disqualification, Rahul Gandhi KE said that he had contested the 2019 elections, but I am not the Congress’s Rahul Gandhi. was convicted and sentenced to two years’ imprisonment. After which he was declared ‘disqualified’ from the membership of the Lok Sabha last week.
