UP News: Harvester collided with electric pole, 170 bighas of wheat crop destroyed due to fierce fire in the field

Pankaj Mishra, Hamirpur: In Hamirpur district of Uttar Pradesh, wheat crop caught fire after the harvester collided with the pole of the high tension line in the field on Monday, causing panic among the farmers. Due to wind, the fire spread to 160 bighas, due to which the wheat crop was burnt to ashes. Three fire engines were sent to the spot as soon as the fire was reported, but before that the entire crop was destroyed in the fierce fire. Due to the fire, the hopes of all the farmers were also destroyed. Weeds have spread in their homes.

160 bigha crop destroyed
Devendra Dixit’s 160 bigha wheat crop was reduced to ashes in the fierce fire, while Mulayam Singh Prajapati’s four bigha, Tijwa’s three bigha, Bahadur Prajapati’s three bigha crop got destroyed in the fire. After getting information about the fire, three fire engines reached the spot and after a lot of effort, the fire was controlled. But the crops of all the farmers were destroyed even before the fire could be extinguished.

Farmers are beating their chest due to the fire destroying crops worth more than 25 lakhs. On the other hand, due to fire in the fields between Maudaha Artara, wheat crop standing in five bighas has been reduced to ashes. Due to a sudden fire in the field of Iqbal Advocate, a resident of Maudha town, the entire crop has been reduced to ashes. The fire engine somehow controlled the fire after reaching the spot. Tehsildar Diwakar Mishra told that a survey of crop loss due to fire is being conducted.

Deepened resentment among farmers against Power Corporation
In Ingohata village, the anger of the farmers has deepened after the wheat crop standing in 170 bighas was reduced to ashes due to the spark emanating from the hanging high tension line. All the farmers including Mulayam Singh Prajapati and Bahadur alleged that the accident happened due to loose wires due to the negligence of the Power Corporation.

Told that the wires of the high tension line passing through the fields have been hanging down for a long time. Even after informing about this, the engineers have not taken any action. Farmers told that the Electricity Department had made contracts twice to tighten the loose wires, but till date the work has not been done on the spot. Engineer of Sumerpur Power Corporation Mahesh Tiwari told that the accident happened due to the mistake of the harvester driver. Told that they have not received complaints about loose wires. Still the investigation will be done.
