In the Indian Premier League (IPL 2021), instead of 8, 10 teams will be seen trying hard for a gleaming trophy. Sanjiv Goenka’s RP-SG Group bought the Lucknow franchise for Rs 7090 crore while international equity investment firm CVC Capitals Ahmedabad franchise won the Ahmedabad franchise by bidding for Rs 5,600 crore.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) was expected to get around Rs 10 thousand crore from the two new teams participating in the IPL from 2022 but it earned Rs 12,690 crore.

BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla said, “Two new teams have joined the IPL, it is a matter of great success for us. Now the form of IPL has changed. Uttar Pradesh has got IPL team, congratulations to the people of Uttar Pradesh. Ahmedabad has a very good stadium, it is a good thing to get them team.

In 2011 also 10 teams participated
This will not be the first time in IPL that 10 teams will participate in it. This has happened a decade (2011) back also. Pune Warriors and Kochi Tuskers took part at that time. However, Kochi was dropped after a season due to controversy. It has also become clear that in this season also the format of 2011 will be adopted. In this, the common home-away format will be done away with. There will be a total of 74 matches instead of 60.

10 teams will be divided into 2 groups
In 2022 the 10 teams will be divided into 2 groups and the tournament will consist of 70 league matches and four playoff matches. All teams will be part of the same league table. Each team will play only 14 league matches in total.

will be decided on the basis of draw

Each team will play a home-away match against the other four teams in their group. Apart from this, four teams of the other group will play once. These matches will be either on the home ground or away. And will play the remaining one team twice.

These matches will be on home and away basis. On the basis of a draw, it will be decided which team will be matched once and with whom twice. More than eight teams played in IPL 2013. A total of 9 teams had played then and a total of 76 matches were played.

Mega auction to be held in 2022
There will be a mega auction of players in IPL 2022 Mega Auction. Several icon players can be seen moving to other teams. With the addition of two new teams, many new players will also get a chance to showcase their talent in the mega auction.

These companies were in the race
The big companies that have lost out in the race to buy the franchise include Gautam Adani’s Adani Group, which had made a bid of around Rs 5,000 crore.

Bids from Manchester United-owned Glaser and Torrent Group also did not figure in the top two bids. 22 companies had bought the tender document for Rs 10 lakh but with the base price of the new teams being Rs 2,000 crore, only five or six serious contenders were in the race.
