Example of mother power: what happened if there is no identity of the father… so many women in Ahmedabad left the column blank

Ahmedabad: Due to education and independence, such women are increasing who want to fulfill the dream of motherhood without marriage. In Gujarat’s Ahmedabad, 22 women have registered themselves as single mothers in the last five years. In the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s (AMC) records for five years, birth certificates of children list only women’s names, leaving the father’s column blank. If you look at the statistics, in 2019 and 2022, six women each registered themselves as single mothers in the birth certificate and left the column related to paternity blank.

What details are filled?
The first details of the birth of a child are recorded in the hospital. After this this data is sent to the registrar’s office. Where records of births and deaths are kept. It has to be filled with the child’s gender, date of birth, birth registration number, name of mother and father, place of birth, temporary address of mother and permanent address. Sources in the AMC say that traditionally even if police find an unknown pregnant woman, she is sent to a shelter home. If that woman gives birth to a child, then the name of the mother and father is not written in the birth certificate of the child. If there is a minor pregnant in any case, then the name is not entered in the record. Eight such cases have been reported in Ahmedabad in recent years, while in 22 cases the women themselves decided to be singer mothers.

school can’t force
Corporation officials say that a woman can obtain a birth certificate even without giving the name of the father. In fact, the state government had issued a resolution in this regard in 2005. It said that the school cannot compel the name of the father to be given in the records. Experts say that if such cases increase in the society, then it is a symbol of women empowerment, where women are exercising their right to become mothers without marriage.

fundamental right to be a mother
The Supreme Court has already said about this that every woman has a fundamental right to become a mother. Ahmedabad-based fertility specialist Kanthi Bansal says that he himself has helped two women become mothers at the age of 30. In this, she was made pregnant artificially, because she did not want to marry. At the same time, she did not want to give up the pleasure of being a mother.
