Due to cordial relations between the government and the judiciary, the appointment of judges has accelerated: Rijiju

Ahmedabad, Oct 28 (PTI) Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju on Thursday said that due to cordial relations between the government and the judiciary, there has been a spurt in the appointment of judges to the High Courts and the Supreme Court.

Speaking to reporters at a law institute in Ahmedabad, Rijiju exuded confidence that “record number” of judges would be appointed in various high courts by the end of this year.

After his address on the subject of free legal aid at LJ School of Law, the Union Minister told reporters, “We have completed the process of appointment of about 101 judges in the High Courts till October 25. By the end of this year, high courts will have a record number of judges. Recently nine judges were also appointed in the Supreme Court.

He said that these appointments symbolize the cordial relationship between the government and the judiciary. He said that otherwise there would have been a possibility of delay in appointments.

Rijiju said, “Our Prime Minister salutes the Constitution. If the provisions of the Constitution are fully followed, the country will progress. We are all duty bound to do so. As per the constitution, it is our duty to provide legal aid. We have to fulfill this duty honestly.
