Gujarat Police personnel and their families protested demanding pay hike

Ahmedabad, Oct 26 (PTI) After Gujarat Police personnel and their families resorted to social media, dharnas and rallies demanding pay hike, Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghvi held a meeting with senior officials on Tuesday.

Inspector General of Police (Administration) Brajesh Kumar Jha said that the minister met senior officials during the day and sought information related to grade pay of other states.

He said, however, that as per the primary information with him, no state gives grade pay of 4500 to the policemen.

“Action was also discussed during the meeting against those police personnel who are resorting to social media instead of raising their demands on proper platform,” he said.

It is worth mentioning that officers from the rank of constable to sub-inspector have been demanding increase in grade pay and they along with their family members staged dharna in various cities including Gandhinagar and Surat on Tuesday.

Police personnel are demanding to increase the grade pay of constable to Rs 2800, grade pay of head constable to Rs 3600 and grade pay of sub-inspector to Rs 4400.

The Aam Aadmi Party and Congress have supported the demand of the protesting police personnel and asked the BJP government in the state to consider their demands in a sympathetic manner.
