University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman, Jagdish Kumar has announced an important change in the eligibility criteria for pursuing PhD and appearing for the National Eligibility Test (NET). According to the report of news agency PTI, UGC Chairman Jagdish Kumar said that now under the new guidelines, students with four-year graduation degree (UG) will now be eligible to directly pursue PhD and give NET.
Let us tell you that students who have taken master's degree i.e. post graduation degree in any subject are considered eligible to give NET, but now students with four years graduation degree (UG) can also give NET. This is a good opportunity for students who want to do PhD in future.
Let us tell you, only those students with four-year undergraduate degree who have obtained minimum 75% marks in their graduation courses can apply for PhD and NET. Earlier, to appear for NET, students were required to have a master's degree with a minimum of 55% marks.
Along with this, Chairman, Jagdish Kumar emphasized that students with four-year undergraduate degree can now do PhD in their chosen subject, irrespective of the subject in which they have done their graduation.
Further, the UGC Chairman has highlighted the provision of relaxation in marks for candidates belonging to certain categories like SC, ST, OBC (Non-Creamy Layer), differently abled persons, economically weaker sections etc. Overall, these changes will serve to promote students pursuing PhD.
Registration for UGC NET June session has started
National Testing Agency (NTA) has started the registration process for UGC NET June 2024 session. The form can be filled by visiting the official website ugcnet.nta.nic.in. The last date to fill the application form is May 10, 2024 and the last date to submit the examination fee through online mode is May 11 to May 12, 2024.
