Highlights
- Counting of butterflies in 7 biodiversity parks from tomorrow
- Butterflies will be counted in all parks from October 25 to 30
- The effect of pollution of the capital on butterflies will also be explored.
Counting of butterflies will start from Monday in seven biodiversity parks in the capital. Under the Butterfly Assessment Week, this time the census will also find out what is the effect of increasing pollution on butterflies? One to two teams will be set up for counting of butterflies in each park. Each team will consist of two to five members. These teams will not only study butterflies but also do their photography.
The seven biodiversity parks in the capital include Yamuna, Aravalli, Tilpat Valley, Northern Ridge, Neela Hauz, Tughlakabad and Kalindi Kunj Bio Park. These parks attract people because of their greenery, grass and lakes. The biodiversity here also draws people from far and wide. Dr. Fayaz A. Khudsar, Scientist in charge of Biodiversity Park Program said that butterflies contribute to the environment in their life cycle by eating leaves at the larval level and pollination at the adult level. These are the hallmarks of the health of the environment.
It also gives information about many pollutants in the environment like carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide etc. Every year the pollution level in the capital starts rising from October itself. This is the reason why the scientists of the Biodiversity Park have decided to count the diversity and number of butterflies at the end of this month.
Butterflies will be counted in all the parks from October 25 to 30. Along with this, their life cycles will also be studied. This calculation will run from 10 am to 12 pm. After butterflies, similar studies will be done for plants, birds, dragonfly and damselfly and other animals. According to Dr. Fayaz, whoever wants to take part in this work can contact at [email protected].
