IT sector is one of the highest employment generating sectors. The country's top IT companies are together providing jobs to tens of lakhs of people. However, now this sector is giving scary figures. The trend of the last few years shows that jobs in the country's biggest IT companies are decreasing rapidly.

Country's top-4 IT companies – TCS, Infosys, Wipro and HCL Tech have recently released their December quarter financial results. The third quarter of the current financial year has not been special for IT companies. While the profit of the largest IT company has increased marginally, the profit of Infosys has decreased. Top IT companies have also given information related to employment along with the financial performance of the third quarter.

Employees increased in only one company

The most worrying thing is that such a huge decline in the headcount of the biggest IT companies has been seen in a span of just one year. If we look at the top-4 companies separately, during the last year, the headcount of 3 companies has decreased and the headcount of only one has increased marginally.

This much decline occurred in a year

According to the available data, the headcount of the largest IT company TCS has decreased by 10,669 in the last one year. Similarly, the number of people working in Infosys has come down the most by 24,182 during this period. The total number of Wipro employees has decreased by 18,510. On the other hand, the headcount of HCL Tech has increased by 2,486. If seen in this way, during the last one year, the headcount of top-4 IT companies combined has declined by 50,875.

Jobs decreased in the third quarter also

Hiring in the coming days. If we talk about it, there seems to be only scope for leniency. TCS has said that it has started campus placements, but the second largest IT company Infosys says that it does not see the need for hiring at present. Earlier, during the third quarter, the number of people in all IT companies decreased. HCL Tech alone hired around 4000 freshers in the third quarter.
