Due to the increased procurement activities of various ministries and departments of the country, the purchase of goods and services through the government platform GeM has crossed Rs 4 lakh crore so far in the current financial year. A senior government official gave this information on Friday.

Government purchases on GeM doubled

GeM Chief Executive Officer (CEO) P.K. Singh said, "By March 28, the procurement crossed Rs 4 lakh crore. This is historical." The purchase value in the financial year 2021-22 was Rs 1.06 lakh crore and in the last financial year it had crossed Rs 2 lakh crore. He said that the purchase of services from the platform has increased from Rs 66,000 crore in the financial year 2022-23 to Rs 2.05 lakh crore so far in the current financial year. Similarly, in the current financial year till March 28, goods worth Rs 1.95 lakh crore have been purchased from the platform. 

India's GeM ranks third in the world

Currently government departments, ministries, public sector units, state governments and central armed police forces are allowed to transact through this platform. South Korea's KONEPS tops the list of such forums across the world. After this, Singapore's GEBIZ is at second place and then GeM is at third place.
