Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Rome. During this, both the leaders are believed to have discussed bilateral and issues of mutual interest. The Prime Minister had reached Rome on Friday at the invitation of the Italian Prime Minister. The two leaders were received by Draghi at the Palazzo Chigi (the official residence of the Italian Prime Minister) as they arrived for their first face-to-face meeting.

A guard of salute was presented to Prime Minister Modi on the occasion. Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Arindam Bagchi tweeted that India-Italy partnership is in sync. Prime Minister Modi was received by Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi when he came to the Palazzo Chigi for the first one-on-one meeting. Both the leaders inspected the guard of honor ahead of the delegation level talks.

After the Rome visit, Prime Minister Modi will visit Glasgow, UK at the invitation of British Prime Minister Boris Johnson. The enthusiastic Indian community in Italy greeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi warmly and they raised slogans and chanted his name during this period. In a video released on social media, Prime Minister Modi was seen happily accepting greetings from the Indian community and shaking hands with the people of the Indian community amid heavy security arrangements at the park.

Before meeting the Indian community, Prime Minister Modi paid floral tributes at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in Piazza Gandhi. The people of the Indian community were carrying the tricolor in their hands and were chanting Modi’s name with enthusiasm. The Prime Minister encouraged the people present by shaking hands. Members of a group present there also chanted mantras and during this the Prime Minister was listening to him with folded hands. He also presented some books to Modi.

In the end, Prime Minister Modi also chanted ‘Om Namah Shivay’ with the people. He appreciated their (people’s) efforts and also had a few talks with them. Modi also inquired about the injured hands of a member of the community present there.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met European Council President Charles Michel and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in Rome on Friday. During this, extensive discussions were also held on trade and investment relations, climate change, corona virus epidemic, global and regional developments. The Prime Minister’s Office tweeted that the official events in Rome began with fruitful talks with European Council President Charles Michel and European Commission President von der Leyen. The leaders discussed ways to strengthen economic and people-to-people ties with the aim of making the earth better.

After the meeting, President of the European Commission Leyen said that it was a pleasure to meet Prime Minister Modi. He tweeted that it was nice to meet Narendra Modi. Our strategic agenda is on the right track. We agreed that our trade negotiators would start working. We will strengthen our cooperation on climate, including in innovation and technology. Looking forward to collaborating in the Indo-Pacific.
