Safdarjung Hospital Neurosurgeon Arrested: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday (March 30) arrested a neurosurgeon of Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital. Arrested for forcing him to buy surgical instruments from a particular store at exorbitant prices.

Nefarious nexus busted after arrest

Officials told that the agency raided several places in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh and busted the nefarious nexus. He said that neurosurgeon Manish Rawat was arrested on Thursday morning. After a thorough investigation, the CBI arrested Rawat and four of his confidants, including Deepak Khattar, owner of Kanishka Surgical Store in New Delhi, and middlemen Avnesh Patel, Manish Sharma and Kuldeep.

To collect money from the patients, they used to exert pressure 

A CBI spokesperson said that after the arrest, Rawat’s medical examination was done at Safdarjung Hospital at 7.52 am on Thursday. The charges against those arrested are related to bribery and corruption. The CBI has accused Rawat of colluding with his associates to demand payment from patients for medical consultations and surgical procedures contrary to the established protocols of the hospital.

Instruments were bought from a particular medical store at several times the cost 

According to the information gathered by the CBI, Patel on behalf of Rawat used to contact the relatives of the patients and ask them to get the necessary surgical equipment from Khattar’s shop in Jangpura to ensure an early date for the surgery. The CBI said he would then request them to make cash payments to Khattar’s employees—Sharma or Kuldeep—or to send money online to the mobile numbers linked to the bank accounts of these employees.

Shared the money of illegal earnings with the surgeon 

Patel allegedly gave the money received from relatives of patients to Rawat personally in cash or forwarded it to others after receiving the money from Sharma, Kuldeep, or Khattar as directed by the surgeon. The CBI spokesperson disclosed that Rawat forced the patients to pay a price that was many times more than the actual cost of the equipment. He said that the shop owner shared this profit with the accused surgeon..

Rs 30 thousand to 1.15 lakh recovered from patients 

Investigation has revealed that Rawat instructed his patients to deposit bribes ranging from Rs 30,000 to Rs 1.15 lakh in the bank account of a middleman. The agency has accused Rawat of misappropriation of surplus funds from the sale of exorbitantly expensive surgical equipment, enriching himself and his co-conspirators through bribery and laundering illegal profits through various companies controlled by Ganesh Chandra, a private individual resident of Bareilly. is also alleged to have been done.
