IND vs AUS: Stand-in captains succeed in Border-Gavaskar Trophy, figures testify

Border-Gavaskar Trophy Stand In Captains: Australia’s fortunes shone in the third match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy being played in India these days. The visiting team registered a win in the third Test after losing both consecutive matches in Nagpur and Delhi. In this match, Australia won under the captaincy of Steve Smith. At the same time, in the last two Test matches, Australia’s command was in the hands of regular Test captain Pat Cummins. Cummins has returned to Australia due to some family reasons. This is not the first time in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy that stand-in captains have been successful. In 2021, India won the series under Rahane’s captaincy.

Ajinkya Rahane has already done the feat

Earlier this happened in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy played in Australia in 2021, when the stand-in captain won the series to the team. In the last series, Virat Kohli was the captain of the team and in the very first match under his captaincy, Team India got a crushing defeat. In this match, Team India was all out for just 36 runs.

After this match, Virat Kohli returned to India on paternity leave and the command of the team was handed over to Ajinkya Rahane. Rahane led the team to a 2-1 series win under his captaincy. The series also included a historic Gabba victory.

Now Smith has done wonders

After Rahane, now Steve Smith was seen doing the same thing. Under the captaincy of Smith, Australia registered a resounding victory by 9 wickets. After the victory in this match, a special figure of the Australia team has also been seen that in the last 20 years, while visiting India, Australia’s permanent captain has been able to register only one win in 20, while stand-in or temporary captains have won 5. Out of these, 3 matches have been named after him. It is clear from this figure that Australia’s regular captain has not been successful on the tour of India.
