Southee struck on the second day of the match and India scored 345 in the first innings. Tom Latham and Will Young were the opening pair for New Zealand. The duo faced the Indian bowlers with determination. He impressed the Indian bowlers with his superb batting. Both the batsmen managed to complete their half centuries. He did not have much difficulty in facing the Indian bowlers. New Zealand got off to a strong start in the first innings with the help of superb batting from Latham and Young. At the end of the second day, New Zealand were 129 for no wicket. Latham is 50 off 165 balls and Will Young is 75 off 180 balls.

Shreyas Iyer’s century in the debut Test
Shreyas Aiyar, who is playing the first Test of his career in India’s first innings, was the center of attraction. He hit a superb batting century. He also became the 16th Indian to score a century in the first Test of his career. He is the second batsman to score a century in his debut Test in Kanpur. Earlier, Gundappa Vishwanath scored a century in his debut Test in Kanpur. Shreyas Iyer played 105 runs off 171 balls with 13 fours and two sixes. He was run out by Tim Southee.
