International Women’s Day 2024: International Women’s Day is celebrated on 8th March every year. It is held to honor the social, economic and cultural achievements of women. Why is it celebrated on March 8?
International Women's Day originated from labor movements throughout North America and Europe. A number of programs have been started every year with the aim of creating awareness for women's equality, positive change for women's development, accelerating gender equality, raising funds for women-focused charities.

In 1908 workers protested in the streets of America. About 15 thousand women took part in this movement demanding their rights in the streets of New York. Along with this, it also included the demand for women to vote. The government came to know about this and a year later in 1909 the Socialist Party of America declared Women's Day.
The question now arises as to why March 8 was chosen to celebrate this day. But on March 8, working women in America raised their voices for their rights. To mark that, the Socialist Party announced to celebrate Women's Day on that date. In 1917, during World War I, Russian women protested for peace. After this movement, 'Emperor Nicholas' of Russia resigned from his position. Women agreed to vote. Seeing all these conditions, the women of Europe took out rallies in support of the peace activists on March 8. For these reasons, the United Nations recognized March 8 as 'International Women's Day' in 1975.

The theme of International Women's Day 2024 is 'Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress'. The theme is to contribute to the advancement of women by investing in their education.
