RAW has prepared a list of about 130 people sitting abroad who are behind the Khalistan campaign and with whom Amritpal is also allegedly connected.

Pro-Khalistan followers are with him in other countries as well. Amritpal is preparing a large army by tricking the Sikh youth so that he can directly challenge the police and security personnel. The number of armed people is increasing continuously. Officials associated with the security agency believe on the basis of intelligence input that there is a stockpile of state-of-the-art weapons around Amritpal.

Usually Amritpal wears a blue pug on his head, a white cloth on his body and a sword in his hand. Amritpal, the head of ‘Waris Punjab De Sangathan’, proudly calls himself a supporter of Khalistan. An official said that security agencies have been worried since the manner in which a mob of thousands led by Amritpal Singh barged into Amritsar’s Ajnala police station on February 23. The Ministry of Home Affairs has also taken cognizance of this. The officer said, no action against Amritpal is a matter related to law and order. If any action is taken according to the need, then in that also the aspect of law and order will be paramount.

Sources said, Amritpal claims himself to be not even the dust of Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale’s feet. But it is a fact that he is completely trying to walk in his own style. There is a picture of Bhindranwala at his residence. He also calls himself his follower. Apart from Punjabi, his command over English is strengthening his connect with the youth with good education and profession. It has constant contact with the countries of Europe. Amritpal also knows good Hindi and Urdu.

Amritpal Singh’s house is in Jallupur Kheda village, about 40 km from Amritsar. Sikh flags flutter above the house. Many servants with daggers, swords and guns in hand are deployed in his security every moment. Guns and swords are acceptable under Sikhism, another official said, but Amritpal calls being surrounded by hundreds of guns necessary for security.

An official said that the agencies are getting concrete information about the number of licensed and unlicensed weapons possessed by people living with Amritpal. Because apart from AK series weapons, information has been received about some carbines and other such weapons which are not licensed.

Khalistan movement started in 1929

The story of Khalistan movement begins in 1929. In 1973, the Akali Dal demanded autonomy for its state. This demand was sought through the Anandpur Sahib resolution. Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale was a staunch supporter of the Anand Sahib resolution. Bhindranwale, who started his journey as a ragi, later became a militant. In 1982, Bhindranwale joined hands with the Shiromani Akali Dal and started the Non-Cooperation Movement. This non-cooperation movement later turned into an armed rebellion.

He took admission in Mechanical Engineering in Kapurthala, but did not complete his studies. After that he went to Dubai. It has taken over the responsibility of ‘Waris Punjab De’ after the demise of Deep Sidhu. Actor and activist Sandeep Singh alias Deep Sidhu who came in the news on 26 January 2021 for hoisting the Khalsa Panth flag at the Red Fort. He died in a road accident on 15 February 2022. Six months before his death i.e. in September 2021, Sidhu had laid the foundation of ‘Waris Punjab De’. He used to run the business of transport while living in Dubai. But now he has returned after wrapping up his work from Dubai.
