18-30 year old women’s identity is most at risk? These figures of the government report scare

Women in the age group of 18 to 30 years are at highest risk of rape. Citing crime records of NCRB, ‘Women and Man in India 2022’ has released its report. Reports suggest that women in this age group are more vulnerable as many of them are part of a job profession that requires them to travel between office and home, work late hours and work on sites. The report further states that social fear could be a major reason for the low number of rape cases among girls below the age of 16 years.

The recently released ‘Women and Men in India 2022’ report calls for more sensitive and effective measures to secure the fundamental right of women to “work and earn”. Referring to women aged 18-30, the report stresses that “such conditions should not be a burden or hindrance to women’s fundamental right to work and earn”. Several measures have been taken. But more work needs to be done in the area of gender sensitization.”

social phobia

The report further states that social fear could be a major reason for the low number of rape cases among girls below the age of 16 years. It may happen that the report has not been written due to social fear.

NCRB data

According to NCRB data for 2021, out of 31,878 rape victims, 20,065 (63%) were between 18-30 years of age. Whereas, 1,030 (12-16 years), 183 (6-12 years) and 53 were below six years. most common causes of sexual violence

The report states that 70 per cent of cases of sexual violence against women are cruelty by husband, outraging the modesty of relatives and abduction. The rate of cruelty faced by women at the hands of husbands and relatives in their own home accounts for one-third of all crimes. Statistics show that compromising on women’s safety starts at home. The report stresses that these are only registered cases, the number could be much higher if the cases registered with the police are also taken into account.

Women aged 18 to 49 facing domestic violence

The report cited data from the National Family Health Survey which showed that one-third of women in the country are facing violence by their husbands. “Married women aged 18-49 are the ones who have ever experienced emotional, physical or sexual violence by their husbands. However, this figure has gone down slightly from 33.3% in 2015-16 to 31.9% in 2019-21 It has happened, but even this number is quite worrying.
