Bengal: Farewell to non-AC coaches of Metro in Kolkata with fanfare

Kolkata Metro Railway on Sunday formally bid farewell to non-AC coaches. Some of these coaches were in service since the inception of the country’s first underground railway in 1984. Kolkata Metro, which started operations on this day in the year 1984, also organized an exhibition titled ‘Down the Memory Lane’ at Mahanayak Uttam Kumar station to commemorate the process of removal of non-AC coaches.

Manoj Joshi, General Manager, Kolkata Metro said, “As part of the farewell to these coaches, we have organized a photo exhibition which will showcase the past, present and future of Metro Railways.”

‘Became an integral part of life’
Manoj Joshi said that this is an opportunity to relive the moments that the city has shared with the Metro Railway which has become an integral part of people’s lives. Joshi said, “Work is on to increase the network of Metro Rail and within two to three years the new routes of Metro will start operating.”
