Dream of marriage and studies at the age of 9
At the age of 9, he was married to Jyotiba Phule of Poona (now Pune). She was completely illiterate till the time of marriage. When the marriage took place, the husband was studying in the third standard. This was the period when there was discrimination against Dalits and women did not have the freedom to study. One day she was turning the pages of an English book at home, when her father’s eyes fell on her. He snatched the book from Savitribai’s hands and threw it out. This was the moment when she decided that whatever happens, she will definitely educate herself. And the same happened.

The decision to go to school was not easy for Savitribai. In the environment in which she was living, it was a big deal for a girl to go to school. This was the reason that the school journey was difficult for him. When she used to go to school, people used to throw stones at her. Used to throw dirt. Discrimination and evil practices also accepted defeat in front of his passion. She kept moving fast towards her goal and completed her studies.
Country’s first women’s school opened in Pune
After completing her studies, she decided that no daughter should remain illiterate, for this she along with her husband Jyotiba Rao Phule opened the first school for girls in 1848. This was the first school for girls in Pune. He opened a total of 18 schools for girls. Not only this, he built special homes for widows and rape victims.
Once a widowed Brahmin woman Kashibai was going to commit suicide. stopped him from committing suicide. Get it delivered at your home. Her son was then named Yashwant and adopted. Raised Yashwant Rao and made him a doctor.
His whole life was devoted to helping people and giving them their rights. After the death of her husband in 1890, she resolved to complete his unfinished works. He died on March 10, 1897, while taking care of plague patients.
