UP TGT Shikshak Bharti: The eligibility criteria for selection of trained graduates (TGT) in science and biology subjects in 4512 aided secondary schools of the state has been amended. For TGT Biology, Graduation/Post Graduation with Zoology, Botany and Chemistry with at least 45 percent marks from a recognized university and B.Ed, B.Ed, B.Sc.Ed or from an institution recognized by National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE). It is mandatory to have M.Ed.

An order to amend the Intermediate Education Act 1921 has been issued by UP Board Secretary Dibyakant Shukla. Now in TGT Science, it is mandatory to have graduation or post graduation with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics subjects and B.Ed, B.Ed, B.Sc.Ed or M.Ed from a recognized university with minimum 45% marks. After amendment, Chemistry has also been included in TGT Bio. Earlier, only those candidates who had graduated in Zoology or Botany could apply for TGT Bio. Similarly, changes have also been made in the qualification of TGT Science. Now mathematics graduates will also be able to apply.

Teachers will be recruited, not subjects, in high school

UP Board has amended the qualification of TGT Bio but this subject is not taught at the high school level. UP Board had abolished Biology at high school level even before the year 2000. Due to this, Uttar Pradesh Secondary Education Service Selection Board had canceled the recruitment of TGT Biology 2016 on 12 July 2018. The then Board Secretary Neena Srivastava had also sent a proposal to amend the qualification. But the qualification was not amended and later on the orders of the High Court, the selection board had to conduct the TGT Biology examination.
