Due to this, an additional mutation has occurred in its spike protein. Due to which the XBB.1.16 variant has come to the fore. It has replaced the XBB1.1.5 variant in India.
How dangerous is the XBB.1.16 variant?
At the same time, 800 case sequences of XBB.1.16 variant have come out from 22 countries. It has also been revealed in the study that the infectivity is high in the XBB.1.16 variant. Although, this variant has not taken any dangerous turn yet, but WHO is monitoring this variant. It has also been said that careful monitoring of this variant is necessary.
