Mumbai: On This Day In History 30th September In History is very important for Maharashtra. On this day, 30 September 1993, a major earthquake occurred in Latur (Latur Earthquake). Thousands of people lost their lives in it. Also on this day, there was a commotion in a temple in Jodhpur and hundreds of people were killed in the stampede. 

1687- Aurangzeb captured Gowalkonda Fort 

After the death of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the Mughals set out to conquer the south. Emperor Aurangzeb first attacked Qutub Shah. On 30 September 1687, Aurangzeb conquered the fort of Golkonda. In the 11th century, King Kakatiya Prataparudra of Warangal built a mud fort at Govalkonda. It was captured by the Bahmani Sultans during the Battle of Warangal in the 14th century.

1993- Latur earthquake killed 10 thousand people 

1996- Madras was renamed Chennai 

The name of the capital city of Tamil Nadu was changed to Madras on 30 September 1996. The city was renamed as Chennai.

2008- Jodhpur temple stampede, 224 dead due to rumours 

On September 30, 2008, a Jodhpur temple was bombed. Rumors spread and a stampede ensued. 224 people died in it.

2009- 1100 people died in an earthquake in Indonesia 

On September 30, 2009 in western Indonesia (Indonesia Earthquake)  An earthquake occurred and 1100 people died.
