Will IFFK not take place in December this year?

Film festivals are a festival for film lovers. Film lovers from all over come to the annual film festivals in Kerala. The film festival, which was supposed to be held last year, could not be held due to the expansion of Kovid and this year it will be held first in February. But as usual, the organizers were determined to hold this year’s fair in December. But the latest news is that the 26th Kerala Film Festival will not be held in December. There are indications that the 2021 fair is currently planned to be held in January or February 2022. But the date fixed on the official website has not been changed. Therefore, we have to wait for the official confirmation to know whether this report is true or not.

The jubilee of the fair was last year. The last fair was held in four districts to control the crowds following the Kovid protocols. The 2020 fair was held in four locations namely Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam, Palakkad and Thalassery. Earlier, it was reported that the fair would not be held this year and would be held in Thiruvananthapuram as usual. But I know that the new decision will be a disappointment to the film lovers who were going to the festival this year with this expectation.

Earlier, it was announced that the fair would be held from December 10 to 17 this year. It was reported that the fair would be held in December in compliance with the existing Kovid norms. The film academy had earlier invited entries for this year’s festival. Films can be submitted to the International Competition category for Indian Cinema, Malayalam Cinema and World Cinema. The film academy has previously announced that films from African, Latin American and Asian countries will be considered for the competition.

Kairali and Sree Theaters are the main venues for fairs in the capital city of Ananthapuri. Renovations of the theater complex are in progress here. It is learned that this will be completed only by the end of January. The Kairali Theater Complex is being modernized with new projectors. The fair will be held only after the completion of this. The Tagore Theater also has some repairs to be made. For these reasons, the general consensus is to move the film festival to February. Meanwhile, IDFFK, a documentary festival, has decided to hold its event next month.

There is a strong demand for the fair to be held in different districts this year as well. But it is learned that the film academy is not interested in it. The academy is of the view that it is difficult to deploy staff in different districts and considering this difficulty, the fair can be held only in Thiruvananthapuram as usual. The selection of films to be screened at the festival is in the final stages. All that remains is a selection of international films. Meanwhile, the Goa International Film Festival is set to begin on November 2.
