Why hunt on Chahal ..? Will Ashwin play in T20 World Cup?

Highlights:

  • TeamIndia management did not give a chance to Chahal in T20s
  • Vainam replaced Ashwin in the first T20I with Ashwin
  • Vettori criticizes wicket-taking bowler
  • Will Ashwin play in next year’s T20 World Cup? That is the question

Former New Zealand spinner Daniel Vettori is angry that Indian wrist spinner Yuzvender Chahal has been sidelined by Team India management. The first T20 match between India and New Zealand will be played in Jaipur on Wednesday night. Ashwin, who bowled 4 overs in the match, took two wickets for 23 runs.

In fact, Chahal has not had much of a chance in the T20s in recent times. The Indian selectors did not let him in the recently concluded T20 World Cup squad. They were selected for the three T20 series against New Zealand. But in the first T20 he was confined to the reserve bench. Vettori said that the all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer, who has consistently excelled in the IPL 2021 season, has been selected by the Team India management in this first T20.

“Venkatesh Iyer has been given a chance based on his IPL performance. But .. in the same sense why not give a chance to Chahal. We all know how Ashwin can bowl. But .. can Ashwin make the final squad for the 2022 T20 World Cup? But .. Chahal is bowling superbly. In IPL 2021, Kohli saw him as a wicket-taking bowler. Now Chahal is also one of the best leg spinners in T20 cricket. He can turn the ball nicely .. as well as attack the stumps. So … he deserves to be in the Indian team, ”Vettori said.
