AB has been a big influence in my career: Harshal

Ranchi, Nov 20 (PTI) Recalling the advice he got from AB de Villiers during the IPL, India pacer Harshal Patel says the former Royal Challengers Bangalore teammate has had a big impact on his career.

Harshal made his international debut on Friday in the second T20 match against New Zealand and took two wickets for 25 runs. India won the match by seven wickets and Harshal was the man of the match.

On the same day, the great South African cricketer de Villiers also announced his retirement from all forms of cricket.

Harshal said in the post-match press conference, “AB has been a big influence on my career. I have always watched them silently. Recently in UAE, I asked him how to bowl economical in the big overs. He said that even when the batsman hits a good ball, do not change. Force the batsman to hit good deliveries because he will think that you will bowl the second ball but it will not happen.

He said, “This thing remained in my mind in the second phase of the IPL and will remain in my mind now for the rest of my career.”

Harshal took the most wickets in this season of IPL. American green card holder Harshal stayed in India at the behest of his elder brother. “As a child, I was very impatient but learned from my experiences, books and listening to successful people,” he said.

He said, “Patience is the most important which comes slowly. If any change is to be made for the better, then a lot of patience has to be taken for it. I too have learned it slowly.
