Laxman Jagtap Passed Away: Pimpri-Chinchwad BJP MLA Laxman Jagtap (Lakshman Jagtap) passed away due to long illness. He breathed his last at the age of 59. With his demise, political circles are reacting to the loss of a bold and popular MLA. He has a journey from a farmer’s son to a popular MLA. Along with that, his political journey has also been disciplined and bold. 

Laxman Jagtap was born on February 15, 1963 in a farmer’s house in Pimple Gurav in Pimpri-Chinchwad. He entered the political life from Pimple Gurav area. He has a political journey as a corporator, chairman of the standing committee, mayor, member of the legislative council, MLA. In all this journey, he had to face rejection many times. But it did not go away. He carved his name as a popular leader in Pune politics without any political support on his own. Today with his death not only Pune but Maharashtra has lost a hard working and hardworking MLA. 

Corporator to Popular MLA…

  • Laxman Jagtap’s political career started from Congress party.
  • In 1992, he was elected as a corporator for the first time. After that even in 1997, he did not let the post of corporator move.
  • He represented Pimple Gurav for 10 years if not one or two.
  • After that he served as the Chairman of the Standing Committee of Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation.
  • Current NCP president Sharad Pawar and Laxman Jagtap were well acquainted.
  • At that time, Jagtap was known as a good, intelligent, diligent and loyal worker. Laxman Jagtap also came to be known as a loyal activist of Sharad Pawar.
  • He joined the NCP which came into existence in 1998. After that he was the Mayor of Pune from 2000 to 2002. 

Why the rebellion?

Vikas was talking about Laxman Jagtap after assuming the post of Mayor. The development of the city made it popular among many. Legislative Council elections were held in 2003-04. At that time, he had sought nomination from the Nationalist Party from the Local Self-Government Group for the election. But the party rejected the candidature of this loyal leader and so he rebelled. 

Contested the Legislative Council election as an independent and joined the Shekap

In 2003-04, he contested the Legislative Council elections as an independent. Political strength was shown at that time. Then in 2014 Lok Sabha elections, NCP rejected its candidature. He then decided to join the Farmers Labor Party. But this time they were defeated. After that he joined BJP. He was nominated by the BJP in the assembly elections and won from the BJP and was elected to the assembly. 

BJP Loyal MLA

BJP MLA Laxman Jagtap came to Mumbai in an ambulance to vote for the Rajya Sabha elections on 10 June 2022. Laxman Jagtap was discharged from the hospital on June 2, 2022 after being ill for several months. Then there was Rajya Sabha election on June 10. Political parties were trying to ensure that none of their MLAs lost their votes. At the insistence of the party, Laxman Jagtap came to Mumbai from Pimpri Chinchwad in an ambulance by road to vote.
