Pune RTO News : Roads in Pune (RTO) With the number of accidents on the rise, the Regional Transport Office (RTO) has taken strict action against reckless drivers. The RTO’s ‘Vayuveg’ squads have cracked down on over 20,000 motorists between April 2022 and March 2023, mainly targeting uninsured vehicles and helmetless two-wheelers. 

100.15% successful performance by recovering penalty of Rs.15.02 crore

According to the RTO, its speeding squads took action against 20 thousand 482 motorists during the above period. Vayuveg had set a target of recovery of Rs 15 crore in the financial year 2022-23. It has successfully achieved 100.15% performance by collecting fines of Rs.15.02 crores. This is a significant increase from the previous year, where the penalty collection target was Rs 11 crore, and the actual penalty collected was Rs 10.59 crore. Which shows an increase of 41.90 percent in the penalty recovery amount.

What causes action?

Most of the RTO operations were done on uninsured vehicles. Action was taken against 5 thousand 903 uninsured vehicles this year and 4 thousand 491 uninsured vehicles last year. Apart from this, action was taken against 3 thousand 693 people riding two-wheelers without helmets and 1199 people using mobile phones while driving. Other violations such as breaking signals, not using seatbelts, overloading goods and carrying passengers in goods vehicles are also penalized.

The RTO’s air speed inspection teams have taken this action with the primary objective of disciplining reckless drivers and reducing the number of accidents. The RTO has expressed its determination to continue this action in the future as well. Deputy Regional Transport Officer Sanjeev Bhor emphasized the importance of following traffic rules and regulations to ensure road safety.
