Mumbai News: Rs 1.18 crore duped from Gujarat’s diamond trader, Mumbai Crime Branch nabs two

Mumbai: Two persons have been arrested from Mumbai for duping a Gujarat-based diamond merchant of Rs 1.18 crore. The police gave this information on Sunday. A crime branch official said that the Gujarat Police, along with the Mumbai Police, arrested the two accused on Saturday from Kandivali West and Lalbagh areas of central Mumbai.

Both had approached a Surat-based diamond merchant to buy the diamond in February. One of the accused engaged the complainant in conversation while the other replaced genuine diamonds with fake ones worth Rs 1.18 crore. When the businessman realized that he had been duped, he lodged a complaint with the Gujarat police, the official said.

Fraud in the name of getting admission in college

According to the official, the Gujarat Police traced the accused to Mumbai. He said that a case has been registered against the accused under sections 420 (cheating) and 120-B (conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code and they have been handed over to the Surat Crime Branch.
