UP Teacher Recruitment: The genie of the selection list of 6800 teachers released before the assembly elections on ignoring the reserved category in the recruitment of 69000 assistant teachers in council primary schools, has once again come out of the bottle before the Lok Sabha elections. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting him to do justice to the candidates of OBC and SC category. In a letter sent on March 9, Rahul Gandhi has requested the Prime Minister to intervene in this matter and ensure accountability. It is also said to declare the category wise list of candidates along with details of marks obtained.

After investigating the matter regarding the complaint of reserved category candidates, in his report of April 2021, Dr. Lokesh Kumar Prajapati, Vice Chairman of the National Backward Classes Commission, had accepted the neglect of reservation in the recruitment of 69000 assistant teachers. According to the report, out of 18598 seats reserved for OBC category candidates, 5844 seats were given to unreserved category candidates instead of OBC category candidates and thus the rights of OBC candidates were violated.

After that the reserved category candidates started an agitation. Anupriya Patel of Apna Dal (S) had also raised the issue of ignoring the reserved category before the 2022 assembly elections. As pressure increased, the government released an additional list of 6800 reserved category candidates in the first week of January 2022. However, dissatisfied candidates filed a petition in the High Court. The High Court had said in its order in March 2022 that there is no clarity in the marks and details of reserved category candidates. The legal battle regarding this matter is still going on and 6800 reserved category candidates included in the list are still forced to stumble.
