Jharkhand: Preparations for Panchayat elections intensified, know on which day the dates will be announced

In Jharkhand, the fragrance of Panchayat elections has intensified. Prospective candidates are busy setting up the electoral equation. Although, the dates for the Panchayat elections have not been announced yet nor the notification has been issued, the Election Commission is busy in completing its preparations for the elections. Recently, the State Election Commission issued SOP related to Corona during the Panchayat elections.

In the state, 53 thousand 480 polling stations have been selected by the Election Commission for 4,345 panchayats in 24 districts. The dates are likely to be announced in the first week of November. Announcement can be made by the commission on any day. According to sources, the commission may announce the dates for the panchayat elections to be held in the state on November 3. Due to the lack of Panchayat elections, the state government has to be deprived of the amount from the 15th Finance Commission, so the state government is trying to conduct three-tier panchayat elections at the earliest.

Panchayat elections in 2015

Panchayat elections were last held in Jharkhand in 2015. In which 4402 Mukhiyas, 545 Zilla Parishad members, 5423 Panchayat Samiti members, 54330 Gram Panchayat members were elected across the state. At present, Jharkhand has a total of 32660 villages, in which the term of elected representatives has ended in December 2020. Panchayat elections were postponed due to other issues including Corona, but the government is no longer in the mood to postpone it.
