BJP lost assembly by-polls due to overconfidence: Rakesh Pathania

Dharamsala, Nov 18 (PTI) Himachal Pradesh Forest Minister Rakesh Pathania on Thursday blamed his party BJP’s “overconfidence” for its defeat in the recent assembly bypolls, saying the Bharatiya Janata Party has learned a lesson from it and Now preparations are being made for the 2022 assembly elections in a united manner.

He also sought to dismiss speculations of a possible change in the party’s state leadership or a cabinet reshuffle, saying the assembly elections would be fought under the leadership of Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur.

“BJP national president JP Nadda and former Himachal Pradesh chief ministers Shanta Kumar and Prem Kumar Dhumal are running the party unitedly by senior party leaders,” Pathania told reporters here.

He said the state BJP working committee would meet in Shimla on November 24 to discuss the electoral strategy besides some “other reasons” for the defeat of party candidates in the recent assembly elections.

Pathania said he also discussed with the officials here on Thursday about the early construction of the Central University campus at Jadarangal in Dharamsala and the expansion of the Dharamsala airport. He said that 25 hectares of land in Jadarangal is already in the name of Central University and the construction work of Dharamshala and Dehra campuses will start simultaneously.

He said, “As far as the expansion of Kangra airport is concerned, the government is serious about it and soon the airport will be expanded. The state government is going to take up the matter of this airport with the Center in December.
