More than 30,000 students reduced in government schools of Delhi, know the reason

While Delhi’s government schools are being praised for their standard of education, according to a Right to Information (RTI) response, the number of students in Delhi’s government schools in the current academic year has decreased by more than 30,000 compared to the last session. .

Following the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of students in government schools in the academic session 2022-23 was 17,89,385, while it dropped to 17,58,986 in this academic year, which is 30,399 less than the previous session. This information has been given by the Directorate of Education (DoE), Delhi in response to an application filed under the Right to Information (RTI) Act. According to information received from DoE, a decline in the number of children has been observed in government schools in all districts and areas except North West A and Central Delhi.

Let us tell you, in the year 2023-24, the number of students in government schools located in North West A was 1,87,596, whereas in 2022-23 it was 1,81,450. Similarly, the number of students in government schools in Central Delhi has increased from 27,580 in 2022-23 to 28,922 in the current academic year.

A DOE official said, “During the pandemic, there were more admissions in government schools in Delhi, but as the situation became normal, some students again took admission in private schools. He said some students’ “failure” in the examination was also one of the reasons for the decline in their marks.

According to the RTI response, the number of science stream students in class 12th in 2022-23 was 21,285, which increased to 21,465 in 2023-24. However, the number of commerce stream students has decreased from 33,006 in 2022-23 to 26,721 in 2023-24.

The number of students studying in the Arts stream has decreased from 1,74,419 in 2022-23 to 1,06,785 in 2023-24. This was less than the number of students in the academic session 2020-21, the RTI reply said. Let us tell you, there has been no response from the Delhi government regarding the number of students.
