IIT: Impact of recession on IIT campus placements, salary packages and job offers decreased.

Not only America and England, many countries are struggling with economic recession. Its effect was also visible on the placement of IIT Kanpur. While the packages of companies remained low, the total number of job offers and those accepting them has also declined. Especially international offers decreased by almost three and a half times. In 2022, where 74 students got jobs abroad in the first phase of placement drive. At the same time, this year this number is only 22. Similarly, last year, 1128 students got jobs in the first phase, which has reduced to 913 this year.

The first phase of placement drive in IIT Kanpur has ended on 15th December. The institute released its report on Friday after the final report of the drive which started on December 1 came. According to this, a total of 989 job offers have been received in the first phase of the season 2023-24, out of which 913 offers were accepted by the students. There are a total of 22 international offers in this. This year, the graduate students of the institute have received an average package of Rs 26.27 lakh. Director of the institute Prof. S Ganesh congratulated the selected students. Placement in-charge Prof. Raju Kumar Gupta said that the second phase will start in the second week of January 2024.

These companies offered jobs

Microsoft, Fujitsu, Samsung, Reliance, Goldman Sachs, McKinsey, Texas Instruments, Deutsche Bank, Tata Projects, Navi, Uniorbit, ICICI Bank, EXL, NPCI, Intel, Bajaj Auto, Tata Steel etc.

Fewer jobs found abroad

According to IIT records, the number of international offers has been less as compared to previous years. Last year, the number of students who got a package of more than Rs 1 crore was 33, whereas this year the institute did not release this figure. Instead of releasing the international and domestic maximum package this year, the institute has given information about the average package. This year only 22 students have got jobs abroad. 74 students got jobs abroad in 2022 and 47 in 2021.

Job offer to 1050 students of IIT Delhi

In the first phase of campus placement, 1050 students of Indian Institute of Technology Delhi were offered jobs by companies in India and abroad. This also includes pre-placement offers (PPO). Maximum 42 percent jobs were found in core-technical sector. In the first phase, 1050 students received offers from 20 international companies. These companies are based in Hong Kong, Japan, Netherlands, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom and United States. Air India, Microsoft, Texas Instruments, Goldman Sachs, Bajaj Auto and Ola Electric have the highest number of students selected. Prof. R Ayothiraman, in-charge of Career Services Office at IIT Delhi, said that we have performed well in the first phase of the placement session. We congratulate the students for their hard work and success.

He said that 42 percent students got marks in core technical field, 22 percent in Information Technology, 11 percent in Consulting, 9 percent in Analyst field, 9 percent in Management field, 6 percent in Finance field and 1 percent in Teaching and Research. Got a job.
