A protesting doctor from Surat said, “Usually postgraduates are admitted in May. With the postponement of counseling, a new batch of PG students will come in March next year. So instead of three batches of resident doctors from last one year, only Two batches are taking care of all the patients. This has increased the workload.”
Another medical student said that till the new batch of PG arrives, the government should think of taking services of doctors from outside in government hospitals which are affiliated to medical colleges.
The Junior Doctors Association (JDA) of BJ Medical College in Ahmedabad claimed in a statement that due to the delay in NEET-PG counseling, there is a shortage of doctors in all medical colleges in the country.
JDA President Dr. Vishwajit Raj said, “With no new PG batch coming, only 66 per cent of the resident doctors are available to attend to the patients. This is putting additional burden on the resident doctors who are already suffering due to the long duty of COVID Huh.”

“Therefore, around 1,500 resident doctors across the state will not be present in the OPD from 9 am to 5 pm on Monday as a protest,” he said. He said that this would not cause any inconvenience to the patients as the resident doctors would be available for emergency duty.
Meanwhile, hundreds of professors and lecturers affiliated to Gujarat Medical Teachers’ Association and three other institutions protested outside various medical colleges over their long pending demands.
