Toll Rate Hike: Highway toll will not increase now, relief will be available for a few months

Election Commission of India: At present you will not have to pay increased toll rates on the National Highway. The Election Commission has directed to postpone this decision which is going to be implemented from April 1. Election Commission (ECI) has asked NHAI to decide on new toll rates on highways Implement after Lok Sabha Elections. Generally, rates on most toll roads in the country are increased from April 1. Toll rates on the highway were going to increase by about 5 percent this time. Elections for the 18th Lok Sabha in the country will begin on April 19 and continue till June 1. Counting of votes will take place on June 4.

Rates increase every year based on inflation 

In the instructions given to the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), the Election Commission has said that it should postpone this decision for the time being. The Election Commission has given this instruction in response to a letter from the Road Transport and Highways Minister. The toll fee on the highways and expressways spread across the country was going to increase by about 5 percent from April 1. According to a senior NHAI official, this increase in toll rates is done every year on the basis of inflation.

There are 855 toll plazas in the National Highway Network

Voting for the Lok Sabha elections in the country will start from April 19. After this, voting will take place on 26 April, 7 May, 13 May, 20 May, 25 May and 1 June. The decision will come on June 4. At present there are 855 toll plazas in the National Highway Network. National Highways Builders Federation (NHBF) had written a letter to NHAI demanding clarification of the situation. He said that we are being prevented from issuing new toll rates. This is creating confusion.

Electricity rates will be increased only after the voting is over 

Apart from this, the Election Commission has said that the decision to increase electricity tariff can be taken by the State Electricity Regulatory Commission. However, they will be allowed to implement the increased prices only after the voting is over in their state.
