PF Claims: 1 out of every 3 PF claims is getting rejected, EPFO subscribers worried

EPFO Rejections: During the last 5 years, the number of rejections of PF (Provident Fund) claims has increased rapidly. 1 out of every 3 final PF claims is getting rejected. In the financial year 2017-18, this figure was 13 percent, which has increased to 34 percent in 2022-23. This figure has increased rapidly in all three categories of PF Claim, final settlement, transfer and withdrawal.

The figure increased due to online processing

According to EPFO officials, the number of claim rejections has increased due to online processing. Earlier the company used to examine the documents of this claim. After this it came to EPFO. But, now it has been linked to Aadhaar. Besides, universal account numbers have also been issued. Now almost 99 percent claims are being made through online portal only.

24.93 lakh claims were rejected

According to official data, 73.87 lakh final PF claim settlements were received during the financial year 2022-23. Of these, 24.93 lakh claims were rejected, which is 33.8 percent of the total claims. This figure was 13 percent in the financial year 2017-18 and 18.2 percent in 2018-19. The rejection rate was 24.1 percent in the financial year 2019-20, 30.8 percent in 2020-21 and 35.2 percent in 2021-22.

Small mistakes are costing heavily

According to the report of Indian Express, this issue of increase in rejection rate has been raised several times in the meeting of the Central Board of Trustees of EPFO. Earlier, EPFO's help desk used to make corrections in the employee's application. These are very small mistakes. If someone's spelling is wrong and somewhere one or two numbers are wrong, the claim is getting rejected. Now that this work is done online, the claim rejection rate is increasing. This is causing a lot of problems to EPFO subscribers.

EPFO will continue to improve services

EPFO has about 29 crore subscribers. Of these, there are 6.8 crore active subscribers. EPFO has said that it is working in the interest of the subscriber. For this, services keep improving. We have also made claim filing easier. Also, almost 99 percent claims have been settled.
