The name of Megha Engineering and Infrastructure Limited, a company working on infrastructure related projects, is once again in the news. Recently the company was in the news regarding electoral bonds. Now CBI has registered the name of the company in a case of embezzlement.

Names of 10 officials of government companies

According to a report by news agency PTI, CBI has registered the name of Megha Engineering. A case has been registered against and investigation has been started. This matter is related to infiltration. Quoting officials, it was said in the report on Saturday that Megha Engineering paid bribe to many officials of various government companies to clear the bills. Along with the infrastructure company, officials of government companies have also been named in the case.

Bribes given to clear the bills

Officials whose names have been recorded in the FIR by CBI , They include 8 officers of NISP and NMDC and 2 officers of MECON. It is alleged that about Rs 78 lakh was given as bribe to the concerned officials to clear the bill of Rs 174 crore of Megha Engineering. It has been said in the CBI FIR that these bills were for work related to Jagdalpur Integrated Steel Plant.

Investigation started in August last year

CBI had already started investigating this case. Had done it. The primary investigation into the alleged embezzlement case related to a project worth Rs 315 crore was started by the CBI on August 10, 2023. This project is to build intake well, pump house and cross-country pipeline in Jagdalpur Integrated Steel Plant. After the preliminary investigation, the suggestion to register a formal case in the bribery case was given on March 18, after which the FIR was registered on March 31.

The company is at second place in giving election donations

Earlier, the name of Megha Engineering had recently come into discussion when, following the instructions of the Supreme Court, SBI had disclosed the names of those who made election donations through electoral bonds. Megha Engineering had emerged as the second largest buyer of electoral bonds in the list. The company had purchased electoral bonds worth a total of Rs 966 crore between April 2019 and February 2024. Out of that, the maximum donation of Rs 584 crore went to the Bharatiya Janata Party. Apart from BJP, Megha Engineering has given Rs 195 crore to BRS, Rs 85 crore to DMK, Rs 37 crore to YSRCP, Rs 25 crore to TDP, Rs 17 crore to Congress and 5 to 10 crore to smaller parties like JDS, Jan Sena Party and JDU. Gave election donations worth crores of rupees.
