ITR Filing 2023: 5 crore ITRs filed so far, taxpayers have only 72 hours left to file income tax returns

Income Tax Return: If you have not yet filed Income Tax Return for the assessment year 2023-24, then fill ITR immediately. Taxpayers now have only three days i.e. 72 hours left to file ITR. The Income Tax Department has tweeted that five crore income tax returns have been filed so far. 

Thanking the taxpayers and tax professionals, the Income Tax Department said that the milestone of 5 crore ITRs has been achieved three days earlier than last year. The tax department said that till July 27, 2023, five crore ITRs have been filed. While 5 crore ITRs were filed by July 30 last year.

According to the Income Tax Department, out of 5.03 crore ITRs filed till July 27, 4.46 crore ITRs have been e-verified.  Out of all the ITRs that have been filed so far, 88% ITRs have been e-verified. Out of 4.46 crore ITRs that have been verified, 2.69 crore ITRs have been processed. 

Income Tax Department told that the helpdesk of the department is available for taxpayers for 24 hours for ITR filling, tax payment and other related services. Taxpayers are being helped through calls, live chat, webex sessions and social media. 

Income Tax Department told that these facilities will be available till 31 July 2023. These services will continue to be available for taxpayers on Saturdays and Sundays as well. Taxpayers who have not yet filed returns for assessment year 2023-24 have been appealed by the Income Tax Department to file ITR immediately to avoid last minute rush.
