Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman Visit: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will leave for Morocco tomorrow on an official visit to attend the IMF-World Bank Annual Meeting 2023. The Union Finance Minister, apart from investor and bilateral meetings with several countries and organisations, will also participate in the 4th meeting of the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors under the Indian Presidency of the G20.

Meetings to be held in Marrakesh-Morocco from 11-15 October, 2023

During the visit, Sitharaman will attend the annual meetings of the World Bank Group (WBG) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) as well as G20 meetings and investor/bilateral meetings with Indonesia, Morocco, Brazil, Switzerland, Germany and France and other related meetings. Will also participate in. These meetings will be held in Marrakesh, Morocco from October 11-15, 2023.

Finance ministers and central bankers from around the world will participate in the annual meetings. The annual meetings, usually held in October, are traditionally held in Washington, D.C. for two consecutive years. and in the third year are held in another member country. The Indian delegation to the annual meetings will be led by the Union Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs and will include officials from the Finance Ministry and the Reserve Bank of India.

Finance Minister Smt. Sitharaman and Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shri Shaktikanta Das will co-chair the fourth meeting of the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors (FMCBG). The G20 FMCBG meeting will see the participation of 65 delegations from G20 countries, invited countries and international organizations in multilateral discussions covering a broad spectrum of important global issues.

The 4th G20 FMCBG meeting will consist of two sessions

Strengthening Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs) to address the common challenges of the 21st century

Global Economy and Crypto Asset Agenda

During the meeting, Segment 2 of the report on Strengthening MDBs by the Independent Expert Group (IEG) will also be released. Segment 1 was released during the 3rd FMCBG meeting held in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. On the sidelines of the 4th G20 FMCBG Meeting, the Indian G20 Presidency, the heads of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank will co-chair the Global Sovereign Debt Roundtable (GSDR) on 12 October 2023. The roundtable will discuss progress made on debt restructuring and discuss ways and means to support the work of G20 countries.
