Bijenjo elected chief minister of Pakistan’s troubled province of Balochistan

Quetta, Oct 29 (PTI) Balochistan Awami Party leader Mir Abdul Quddas Bijenjo was on Friday elected as the new chief minister of Pakistan’s troubled province of Balochistan. His election comes five days after the resignation of former chief minister Jam Kamal Khal Alyani.

Alyani on Sunday submitted his resignation to Balochistan Governor Syed Zahoor Ahmad Agha. He took this step after the Assembly passed a no-confidence vote against his government over allocation of funds for development earlier this month.

Bijenjo comes from a politically and tribally influential family and enjoys the support of 39 out of 64 members in the Assembly. He has been elected chief minister for the second time. Earlier, he had led the state from January to July 2018.

The spokesman said that Governor Agha will administer the oath of office and secrecy to him at Balochistan’s Governor’s House in Quetta in the evening.
