New users of OTT decreased for the first time in 4 years, YouTube dominates video streaming

Comscore New Report for OTT: A new report by Comscore, a website that monitors global digital data, has come out, in which it has been told that the unique visitors of over-the-top i.e. OTT have increased over a long period of time. There has been a decline for the first time since. According to the report, in January 2024, the number of unique visitors of OTT decreased to 46 crores. This is the first time after the year 2020, when the number of unique visitors of OTT has decreased.

According to Comscore report, even though the number of unique visitors of OTT may have come down to 46 crores in January this year, the reach of OTT in the digital world is continuously increasing. Currently, OTT penetration in the digital universe has reached 87.8 percent. A year ago, i.e. in January 2023, the number of unique visitors of OTT was 46.6 crores. OTT had benefited a lot during the Corona epidemic. Before the pandemic, the number of unique visitors of OTT was 39.5 crore in January 2020, which increased to 44.8 crore in January 2021 after the pandemic. After this, between January 2021 and 2022, the number of unique OTT visitors further increased to 45.2 crores.

What does the report say about unique visitors

Comscore's report states that YouTube is India's largest video streaming platform with 456 million (45.6 crore) unique visitors. YouTube also leads in terms of engagement with an average of 864 minutes per visitor. After YouTube, OTT content aggregator YuppTv has the highest engagement. After this the names of Disney+ Hotstar, Jio Cinema, MX Player are included. ZEE5 is at fifth position in terms of unique visitors. After this, Prime Video and Netflix have got the place. After Prime Video and Netflix, Jio TV and Sony Liv have got the place.

  • Netflix – 4.2 crores
  • Jio TV – 2.9 crores
  • Sony Liv – 2.6 crores

The report says that the big competition between Hotstar and Jio Cinema is regarding live sports. With the help of IPL, Jio Cinema reached the peak of 151 million unique visitors in the year 2023, while with the help of ICC CWC, Hotstar received 191 million unique visitors in the month of November last year.
