Apple Vs Epic: Apple gets a big shock, paves the way for Epic Games to have its own app store

Digital Markets Act: iPhone maker Apple has suffered a major setback. Bowing to the pressure of the Digital Markets Act (DMA) of the European Union, the company has given permission to Epic Games to launch its app store. After this, the return of Epic Games on iPhones and iPads in Europe has now been decided. The war between Apple and Epic Games regarding the App Store was going on for a long time.

The decision had to be taken under pressure from European regulators

Apple had to take this decision under pressure from European regulators. Earlier this week, Apple had banned the opening of Epic Games stores. Besides, their famous game Fortnite was also stopped from coming on the App Store. Epic Games was removed from the App Store in 2020 for violating Apple's app payment rules. Epic Games protested Apple's rules.

Tech companies were given time till Thursday

The European Union had given time till Thursday to all big tech companies to comply with the Digital Markets Act. Due to the new rules of DMA, big companies like Apple and Google have been limited to app control on iOS and Android operating systems. EU Industry Chief Thierry Breton wrote on social media platform X that the regulator had warned Apple. But, we are happy that the iPhone maker has given relief to Epic Games by complying with the DMA. The effect of DMA is clearly visible in just 2 days.

The legal battle was going on since 2020

The legal battle between Epic and Apple started in 2020. The gaming company had alleged that Apple was charging up to 30 percent service charge through in-app payment. This is a violation of US antitrust rules. However, Epic had to face defeat in the legal battle. After this, Epic started deliberately violating Apple's rules. Due to this, Apple had banned Epic from its products.
