Before Diwali, the prices of petrol and diesel have increased once again. In Sriganganagar, petrol has become costlier by 37 paise and diesel by 38 paise on Friday. Petrol prices have reached a record Rs 121.12 per liter in Sriganganagar. At the same time, the price of diesel has gone up to 111.98 per liter. Petrol pumps remained closed for three days in the district due to expensive petrol and diesel. Pump operators went on strike and about 150 petrol pumps remained locked. However, after the appeal of the local administration, the strike was postponed for a month in view of Diwali.

However, there is no consensus yet on the demands of petrol pump dealers. After talks with the local administration, the one-time strike due to the festival of Diwali has been called off. Petrol pump dealers were on strike demanding to stop illegal smuggling of petrol diesel, reduce VAT rate, stop illegal trade of biodiesel, and make petrol diesel price uniform in the state.
