Genetic susceptibility is also a factor in HPV infection in some women, researchers found in the study. These genetic variants are said to cause cervical cancer from the most dangerous HP virus. 

Research on tens of thousands of people

A total of 903 women who participated in this study had high-risk HPV infections. 224 of them have resolved HPV infection. But the remaining 679 people were found to have continued infection. The research found that genetic variants in women increase the chances of developing fatal cervical cancer through HPV infection. Certain genetic variants have been found to be associated with HPV infections. The third leukocyte antigen (HLA) genes are associated with HPV infections, the researchers said. They are said to increase the risk of developing cervical cancer.
