Year of Millets 2023: The state government has also decided to include information on millets in the curriculum of basic and secondary education. In this regard, instructions have been given to the Basic and Secondary Education Department to include various crops of coarse grains (Shri Anna), their various products and importance in nutrition in the school curriculum.
To promote the use of millets in the state, Chief Secretary Durga Shankar Mishra has issued instructions to all Additional Chief Secretaries, Principal Secretaries, Secretaries, all Divisional Commissioners and District Magistrates. It has also been said that action should be taken to train teachers regarding the beneficial properties of millets. So that he can make the students aware about it. School students should be made aware of the importance of coarse grains through teachers. Products made from coarse cereals should be included under the mid-day meal programme.
Different types of activities on coarse grains such as identification of coarse grains, information about its nutrients, essay writing, quiz and project work etc. should be organized in schools. In the instructions issued regarding the strategy regarding the production and use of coarse grains in the perspective of the International Nutritious Grains Year-2023, the Department of Horticulture and Food Processing has been asked to ensure the establishment of processing units of coarse grains on priority.
The Agriculture Marketing Department has been asked to ensure the allotment of places for sale of coarse grains and its products in various mandis of the state.
