Today is International Women's Day. Every year this day is celebrated as a festival on 8th March all over the world. This day is dedicated to women. Today every field – economic, social, cultural, sports – is full of achievements of women. Even now women are being deployed in every branch of Army, Navy and Indian Air Force. This day is the day to salute these achievements. Apart from this, the purpose of these days is also to spread awareness about the rights of women so that they can get their rights and can walk step by step with men.
Friends, it is said in our scriptures – Yatra Naryastu Pujyante Ramante Tatra Devtaah. That means where women are respected, all the gods reside there. Today women have become self-reliant. She is setting an example in every field. The progress of the nation is possible only through women empowerment.
International Women's Day was first celebrated in America in 1909. Then about 15,000 women protested in New York City demanding voting rights, reduced working hours and better wages. In 1975, the United Nations started celebrating it with a theme. This year's Women's Day is Inspire Inclusion. It means making people aware to understand the importance of women. This theme also means promoting the creation of a society for women where women can feel connected, empowered and have equal rights.
It is true that women are flying the flag in every field. But it is also a bitter truth that even today in many places they have to face gender inequality and discrimination. From education and health to employment, there is a deep gap between men and women. Cases of female feticide still occur today. Crimes against women are increasing. Most of the women have not got the right and freedom to take decisions in the family. In such a situation, it is our duty to take a pledge to keep trying to improve the status of women in the society.
