Principal sir present here, respected teachers and my dear colleagues or respected guests present here and my dear colleagues. Today, 3rd January, is a very important day in the journey of development of women of the country. Today on January 3, Savitribai Phule, the pioneer of women's education in India, was born. On this day in 1831, the country's first female teacher Savitribai Phule was born in a farmer family in Naigaon, Satara, Maharashtra. Savitribai Phule played an important role in improving the status of Indian women. Today is the day to remember and pay tribute to Savitribai Phule, the country's first female teacher.

Before independence, especially in the 19th century, the status of women in the Indian society was very bad. They were kept away from education. After the death of her husband she had to commit Sati. There was a lot of discrimination against women. It was very difficult for widows to live a life in the society. Dalits and lower classes were exploited. They were treated with untouchability. In such an environment, Savitribai Phule, born in a Dalit family, not only got education herself by fighting the society but also made other girls educated by teaching them.

Savitribai Phule Jayanti: The story of the struggle of the country's first female teacher and her precious thoughts.

When Savitri Bai went to school, people used to throw stones at her. But he did not lose courage and struggled hard to get education. When she was just 9 years old, she was married to 13 year old Jyotirao Phule. Jyotirao Phule was also a class three student at the time of their marriage, but regardless of all the social evils, he fully helped Savitribai in her studies. Savitribai took teacher training in Ahmednagar and Pune and became a teacher. Savitribai Phule, along with her husband, opened a girls' school in Pune in 1848. It is considered to be the first girls' school in the country. The Phule couple opened a total of 18 schools in the country. To alleviate the sufferings of widows, he led a strike against barbers for not shaving the heads of widows, which was a custom of the time.

The British East India Company also honored his contribution. She was not only the first woman teacher in the country but also the first woman principal.

Savitribai also opened the well of her house for the Dalits. It was a big thing to do this at that time in the anti-Dalit environment. Savitribai also opened an ashram for widows. Gave shelter to destitute women here.

When plague spread in Pune, Savitribai herself got involved in serving the patients. She herself fell prey to this disease and died due to it.

Friends, today is the day to take pledge towards women education, empowerment and welfare. Society and country will develop only through the development of women. A country can never move forward leaving half its population behind. Even today, the condition of women is very bad in many villages and towns of the country. If we have to realize the dreams of Savitribai Phule, we will always have to strive towards women empowerment.
