UPSC Success story: Ravi Kumar Sihag has passed the Civil Services Exam (CSE) examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) with 18th rank. Getting 18th rank in UPSC exam is a big thing in itself, but Ravi Kumar did not get this rank easily. For this he had to struggle hard. Let us know about Ravi Kumar Sihag, who passed the UPSC exam in Hindi medium. How did you prepare for this exam?
Ravi Kumar Sihag is the son of a farmer and is a native of Sri Ganganagar district of Rajasthan. He used to help his father in the fields till his graduation. Ravi was smart in studies right from the beginning and always thought about moving forward in his career.
Let us tell you, Ravi had given four attempts for the UPSC exam. In the year 2018, he was ranked 337th in his first attempt. In which he got Defense Accounts Service (IDAS) cadre. His dream was to become an IAS officer. After which he took the exam again to improve his rank and in the year 2019 he got 317th rank. And got Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS) cadre in the second attempt. Then in the year 2020, he could not even pass the main examination in the third attempt. However, after two attempts, the third attempt was such that he did not reach the interview. He did not take his failure to heart and decided to appear for the UPSC exam for the fourth time. In the year 2021, in his fourth attempt, he secured 18th rank and obtained the post of IAS.

Born on November 2, 1995, to farmer Ramkumar Sihag and housewife mother Vimala Devi, Ravi Kumar Sihag is now an IAS officer and the only brother among three sisters. He has completed his schooling through Hindi medium. He studied till class 7th from Manmohan sir's school Saraswati Vidya Mandir in his native village 3 BAM Vijayanagar, Sri Ganganagar, after which he studied class 11th from Sharda School, Anupgarh and 12th from a senior secondary school in Vijayanagar. After completing school, he took BA degree from Sharda College, Anupgarh.

In an interview, Ravi shared some of the UPSC exam strategies that he adopted while preparing for the exam. According to him, candidates need to understand the requirements of the exam before starting their preparation. First of all, he looked at the UPSC syllabus carefully and started preparing for the exam from basic books. According to him, NCERT is most important for UPSC aspirants.
When he was asked about his Hindi medium background, he said that the medium does not matter. His medium of writing was Hindi, also his optional subject was Hindi Literature, but still he had secured good marks in the optional subject and became the topper of Hindi medium in the year 2018 and now in 2021 he has secured 18th rank.
He further said, it is mandatory for the candidates to learn English. Even if the candidates are from Hindi medium, it is necessary to know English language to pass the examination. Knowing English does not mean that you should speak English fluently, but a candidate should know English well enough to understand what is written in this language and be able to write in this language. Whereas Ravi said, if you are preparing for this exam with full hard work then no one can stop you from being successful in it.
