National Unity Day 2021: Tomorrow is the 146th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the iron man who tied the country in a thread of nationalism after independence. The birth anniversary of Sardar Patel is celebrated as National Unity Day. National Unity Day was celebrated for the first time in 2014 in the NDA government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Sardar Patel was also the first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister of the country after independence. Let us know some interesting things related to the life of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on the occasion of National Unity Day 2021-

1- Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was born on 31 October 1875 in Nadiad, Gujarat. After going to London, he studied as a barrister and after coming back started practicing law in Ahmedabad. During this, the freedom struggle was gaining momentum, while Patel was also inspired by the ideas of Mahatma Gandhi and he jumped into the freedom movement of India.

Sardar Patel’s first and major contribution to the freedom movement was in the Kheda struggle in 1918. He also successfully led the peasant movement in the Bardoli Satyagraha in 1928.

3- Iron man Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was the first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister of India.

4- After attaining independence, his contribution in the creation of a united India by integrating the princely states cannot be forgotten. He merged 562 small and big princely states into the Indian Union to form an India nation.

5- Mahatma Gandhi gave the title of Iron Man to Sardar Patel.

6- The 182 m (597 ft) high iron statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel (Statue of Unity) was constructed in front of Sardar Sarovar Dam of Narmada in Gujarat. This is the tallest statue in the world. It was dedicated to the nation on 31 October 2018. The height of America’s Statue of Liberty is only 93 meters.

7- It was the vision of Sardar Patel that the Indian Administrative Services would play an important role in keeping the country one. He laid great emphasis on strengthening the Indian Administrative Services. He called the civil services a steel frame.

8- After the success of the Bardoli Satyagraha movement, the women there gave the title of ‘Sardar’ to Vallabhbhai Patel.

9- The basis of any country lies in its unity and integrity and Sardar Patel was the architect of the unity of the country. That is why his birthday is celebrated as National Unity Day.

10- Sardar Patel died on December 15, 1950 in Mumbai. In 1991, Sardar Patel was posthumously awarded the ‘Bharat Ratna’.
